In May of 2023, my husband & I closed on a mid century home built in 1969. It has been vacant for 10 years and needs a tremendous amount of work. Over the last year we have managed to get the roof replaced, detached garage rebuilt, new garage doors, exterior paint & have finished demolition on the interior. It’s a slow process but it will be so worth it when it’s completed!
As I am stepping into my last year of my 30s, it seemed fitting to get creative at the demo house. Let me tell ya, that place is gross. There is no plumbing, no electrical & it just straight up stinks in there. When we first bought it, the house was home to a family of vultures. There was a Dad, Mom & two babies. Despite how disgusting they are, it was super cute to watch them interact with each other.
When we first bought the house, there were a lot of pieces in the home that were original to the era of the home. One of the things I loved was the olive green stove & oven. Once the guys ripped it out, it’s kinda just been sitting in the middle of the house. At a certain time of day, the sun hit the stove directly. It was begging to be in a photograph! So I set a pot on fire & took some pictures with it.
My birthday shoot doesn’t make a whole lot of sense & I am okay with that. Aaron knew I was doing a shoot at our new to us house but he did know what the theme of the shoot was. While I was getting my makeup done with
Celina, I kept thinking of things that I forgot to pack in my car. I would call or text him with my requests to put things I forgot in the mailbox & I would snag after my makeup was done. As time went on, the items requested got more & more random:
•eyeliner
•lemons
•two pieces of bread
•strainer
•switchblade
•frying pan
You get the idea. Results of the vision are below. I’m entering the last year of my 30s feeling pretty grungy but I have no doubt the decade of the FOURs will be my soft era.
Special thanks to
Carleigh for being sweaty & entertaining my vision in my head.
