As Melanie tells the story, she met Stephen on a quiet Monday night at a local bar. I’m really surprised it was quiet; all of my experiences going out on Mondays end up manic. Anyways, Melanie was hanging out with a group of friends playing pool when she noticed a gentlemen with long hair & tattoos. Melanie stared at him until he decided to come over & say hi to the people she was with, as he already knew them. Using their friends as a means to come over to say hi, they talked the rest of the night about all different things. Life, spirituality, existentialism…they exchange numbers & Steve asked her on their first date a week later.
I’ve known Stephen for quite some time. He was a groomsmen in my wedding & my husband & him work together. After Melanie came into his a life, a new side of Steve that I have never known has come out. He hangs on Melanie’s every word & checks in with her every few minutes or so even if it just means touching her arm while she is talking to someone else so she knows he is there. Sometimes certain people bring out a side of you that was always meant to be around but just couldn’t. At the rehearsal we were asked what have we noticed about Steve that changed since Mel came into his life & I said stability. Stability is everything. Whether it’s emotional or physical. You need a solid ground to build anything on.
Their day was approaching & we were all expecting rain. It’m pretty sure it was a 100% chance of rain & their ceremony was outdoors with no plan B. Wouldn’t you know, the sun came out during the ceremony? I told them both they were one with the earth that day! I loved everything about this day; the colors, the quirkiness, the balance & the LOVE. Steve & Melanie, thank you for allowing me to celebrate into the start of your new lives together! I hope you have THE BEST time on your honeymoon in Thailand! Enjoy a few, few, (I really mean few!) of my favs from your best day ever. XOXO
Stephen designed & drew their wedding invitations…ya know, being a talented artist & all.
