My Mom & Dad met their senior year of high school at St. Joe. I won’t mention what year because I am nice….(insert devil emoji) My mother, Lydia, said that she used to give my Dad, Darren, apple slices in the hallway between classes. Her Mom used to cut them up & send them in her lunch box everyday. During our session my Mom told my Dad “Here we are so many years later & to think it all started with just an apple.” My Dad quickly replied “Yeah, look what happened to Adam!” Always with the quick jabs & comebacks that one!
By chance, I actually got to see my parents wedding photos for the first time last week. My mom took the album out & showed me. It’s so funny because everyone in the family looked at them & said ‘Jeez these photos are horrible!!!!” Everyone in the fam are such picture snobs now! Photography has changed so much! But you know what hasn’t changed? The reason people get married. It made me appreciate my job even more than I already do knowing that my #jkcouples will hopefully look back on their wedding photos 35 years later & be flooded with memories. They looked so young, happy & in love. Mom was 24, & Dad was 23 when they got married. When he found out she was older than him he mentioned that he was dating an older woman & she coyly said “Yes & don’t you ever for get it!”
Their wedding day was cut short tragically when during the father daughter dance at their reception, my grandfather had a heart attack. My Uncle Jay, which is my Dad’s sister’s husband, gave CPR until the EMT arrived. Everything turned out ok & Grandpa recovered just fine, but now looking back ALL THEY HAVE IS THEIR PHOTOS & the memory of it in their heads. For their anniversary gift for the big 3-5 they told me they wanted to do a formal session out on their property. Yes please! I am so happy that I can provide them with photos that they can look back on for many decades & remember that period of their lives. My Dad thanked me & said he wished they would of taken more photos together through out their life. It’s never too late to start!
Their official wedding date is February 12th, 1983. Then along came me 2 years later! Hopefully I can convince them to do a new session every 5 years. I don’t think I will have too hard of a time making them! I really think they loved being in front of the camera! And I loved being the one behind it helping make their memories. Love you Mom & Dad! XOXO
I knew I wanted to make a bouquet that was bright, bold & beautiful, just like my Mother.
