WOOHOO!!! I finally made the time to sit down & make a blog about the Katelyn James Workshop Experience. Let me tell you, it is just that. An experience. It’s hard to believe that I actually flew across the states to attend this, mainly because this is so out of my zone! You know how you make up day dreams in your head or make believe scenarios of things that will never play out in real life…this was one of those things for me. While I ALWAYS want to go out, do new things & meet new people, the reality is I am a mom of three children who all depend on me. It took a week of me planning, prepping & cooking for me to be gone for 4 days so that my husband could survive without me. Luckily, the kids hadn’t started the school year yet so the chaos of school mornings wasn’t an issue. I am so grateful to have such a loving, wonderful husband who supports my dreams so much that he will take off a week of work so I can go chase mine. I know I say it ALLLL the time but without him I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am today.
All the while I assumed I would be traveling to the workshop alone, but my Mom volunteered to keep me company through the trip! She came along & did some shopping, lots of shopping….apparently fraud detection called my dad while she was out because there was so much spending going on, the bank thought someone must of stolen her card! BUSTED!!!!
I originally found Katelyn back when my own journey for a wedding photographer began. I thought to myself ‘I want pictures like THAT‘ & so the pursuit of my perfect wedding photographer ensued. I found her & she changed my life too. I mean, hands down she is one of the reasons why I am in the profession I am in today. Anyways, I’ve followed along in Katelyn’s journey this entire time which has been probably around 5 years. I always looked forward to anything she had to say & frequently stalked her website because of all of her educational content that she offered. While during a random stalking, (I didn’t really stalk that often but it sounds funny saying it) I was intrigued to learn that she was hosting a workshop in her new home; the second one ever. I have been wanting to attend a workshop but told myself that the first one I went to 100% hands down had to be hers. She did not disappoint! I don’t think I ever saw her, her husband or family not smiling the whole time we were there. They must have cheeks made of steel to smile that much!!! I loved the sense of home she offered to all of the attendees & everyone felt so comfortable being there. There was a sense of community like no other & we were all sponges waiting to soak up all the things that Katelyn had to offer.
Day one was filled will all the info about posing that led up to a fabulously styled shoot. (I can’t wait to share that with you soon!) You can tell while Katelyn is teaching that she genuinely wants you to grow & be successful. In an industry that can be extremely harsh & lonely at times, it was very refreshing to be around a group of creatives that all wanted to build each other up. Everyone was vulnerable & shared stories of success & hardship. It was so inspiring to be around such wonderful, kindhearted people. We will all easily be friends for life because of this experience & for that I am so grateful. I know all of us still communicate on almost a daily basis & the workshop was a little over a month ago.
Day two started with KJ Headshots! YAY! As photographers, we are always behind the camera so it’s great to be in a clients’ shoes if only for a moment. The ‘what do I do with my hands’ syndrome is a real thing. After lots of laughs we settled in for an afternoon of learning all about the business part of photography. *Mind Blown* I walked away with SO SO much valuable information I could of cried talking about it. I have already implemented so much that I have learned & it has been a total game changer for my business. Is it crazy to say that I loved every moment of walking into a house full of strangers? Every individual that was there is so unique & insanely talented! I am so grateful to have made a dream a reality & that I met so many wonderful people that I will remember for the rest of my life! #goaldigger
Check out some behind the scene photos from the workshop! Styled shoot blog is coming up next!
Do you ever get the urge to eat a cloud when you see it? I do! Below are some pictures at the Short Pump mall. It’s seriously the cutest mall I’ve been to! I made my mom pose because she looked just like one of the flowers.
AHHHH! The house we’ve all watched come to life through Katelyn’s Instagram page! It’s so pretty!
Those cookies were handmade by Katelyn’s sister, Emmy! There’s a secret ingredient that makes them so delicious, but I won’t give it away!

Facebook LIVE!!! Katelyn did these during lunch & dinner on both days where it was kinda an ‘Ask anything’ situation. I just love how Michael looks at her while she does her thing!
Bokeh boy got so much attention from all the ladies while we were there! This is seriously the only picture I got with him…Paige looks so pretty!
